Something very real has happened over the past few weeks.
What started as a personal, heartfelt journey through nostalgia and meaning—Toys Are Totems—has now become something much bigger. Not just a book. Not just a passion project. But a living blueprint for how anyone, right now, can build a brand, create products, and bring ideas to life like never before.
This isn’t theory. It’s the new reality of what’s possible when you take creative control and prototype-first.
From Book to Brand in Real Time
Toys Are Totems is a book about how the things we loved as kids still speak to our souls today. It’s also now a living product line, a collectible figure, a digital aesthetic, and an open invitation for others to do the same with their own ideas.
I didn’t wait to be picked. I didn’t license out. I didn’t sit back and hope. I built the prototype.
Totemo, our mascot figure, started as a spark in the imagination. Now he’s a tangible piece of the brand. The shield emblem evolved to reflect the flame of transformation and the spiral of nostalgia—branding born through meaning. We’ve mocked up plushies, comic covers, journal pages, and more, all using the tools available today to any creator with vision.
No committee. No gatekeepers. Just creation.
This Is the Era of Prototype-First Entrepreneurship
For anyone in business—especially solopreneurs, artists, or legacy-minded entrepreneurs—this is your golden window. You don’t need a million-dollar budget to test an idea. You need clarity, a story, and the will to show your work as you go.
Digital tools, AI, 3D rendering, print-on-demand, and community-building platforms have leveled the field. And here’s the real kicker:
Your prototype can be your pitch, your product, and your promotion—all at once.
Waiting until it’s “perfect” is the old model. Now, if you can visualize it, you can show it. And if you can show it, you can sell it. Even if you’re still writing the book, designing the figure, or developing the course.
Toys Are Totems is proof of that.
The Creator’s Compass: Turn Your Phone into a Prototype Factory
This fall, I’m launching a micro-course called The Creator’s Compass through Embracing the Spark. It’s built for creators, dreamers, and entrepreneurs who want to turn their phones—and their time—into high-value content and meaningful momentum.
We’ll cover:
How to map your message and brand without burnout Why prototyping before you’re ready leads to clarity and confidence How to use your smartphone and free/affordable tools to make pro-level content A real-time walkthrough of how I built Toys Are Totems into a multi-format product using exactly this system
Whether you’re building a brand, a book, or a legacy, The Creator’s Compass gives you the roadmap—and the permission—you’ve been waiting for.
The Takeaway: The Playground is Open
So many of us are still waiting for the right time. The right conditions. The right partner. The right budget. But those who thrive in this new era? They build while they go. They play in public. They let the spark lead—and then they shape it.
Toys Are Totems isn’t just about toys. It’s about what they represent: imagination, identity, permission, and play. It’s a love letter to the parts of us we packed away but never stopped needing.
And it’s a case study in what happens when you prototype the spark.
You’re not late. You’re right on time.
Now go play.
